Student development

2019/2020

We create the Academy's program with regard to the development of specific skills in high school students.

 

Program participants therefore complete internationally recognized tests and a self-assessment form at the beginning and end of the school year.

 

Comparison  The results before and after graduating from the Academy demonstrate in which areas and to what extent the program has contributed to the development of students' key competences.

Measuring tools

  1. DIT (Defining Issue Test) test of critical thinking in collaboration with the University of Alabama

DIT results

The test is focused on measuring critical thinking and solving moral dilemmas.  

Indicator 1: P-score

 

  • the higher the P-score, the more one thinks like a moral philosopher (they reach a score of 70+)

  • The score also shows the degree of willingness  to take a consensus / decision also with regard to the good of others

  • improvement required: at least 0.4 points (assessed as successful intervention)


 

Improvement by whole  3 points  is 7.5 times higher  as required  successful educational activity.

 

 

Indicator 2:  N2 score
 

  • The score shows how a particular person rejects ideas that are simplified and biased

  • required improvement: at least 0,4 points  (evaluated as a successful intervention)

 

The students of the Academy improved by 4.4 points during the school year, ie up to 11 times  more than a successful educational activity requires.

Part of the SCIO test focused  to measure reading comprehension.  ​

During the school year with the Academy, students improved in reading literacy by an average of 7.5 points.

 

According to SCIO, this difference is significant.  The same test was written by students of the Academy by an average of 14.1 points  better than students who apply  using SCIO at Slovak universities.

  • 95% consider their teachers to be the most key aspect of the program
     

  • 72% say they have fewer prejudices because of the program
     

  • 76% have more understanding of different life situations, even if they have never survived them

How do teachers evaluate the impact of the program?

Like students, teachers have the opportunity at the end of the school year to evaluate the impact of the program in specific areas in the form of a self-assessment questionnaire. See a selection of ratings.

For the first time, I experienced the guidance of a teacher by another lecturer. At first, I was worried about the result because it was harder for me to accept criticism. However, verbal assessment has been shown to be the best guidance a teacher / lecturer can receive.
