Akadémia veľkých diel vznikla v roku 2019.

Program Akadémie veľkých diel doposiaľ absolvovalo 1223 stredoškolákov, pod vedením 102 učiteľov na 49 školách na celom Slovensku.

The results
in the school year 2020/2021

We create the Academy's program with regard to the development of specific skills in high school students.

 

Program participants therefore complete internationally recognized tests (DIT and SCIO) at the beginning and end of the school year.  and a self-assessment form.

 

A comparison of the results before and after graduating from the Academy demonstrates in which areas and to what extent the program has contributed to the development of students' key competences.

Critical thinking 

Academy students have improved their critical thinking
and solving moral dilemmas. Their results were

as required by a successful educational activity.

Reading comprehension

Academy students improved their reading comprehension (average percentile) by

year 2020

So 4.7 points better than students who apply  using SCIO at Slovak universities and complete the same test.

 

And 5.7 points better than the students of the control group, who fell by 3.9 points in the score for the year. 

In practice, this means that they can better understand the text, see more important details in it and perceive its many hidden meanings.

Concentration

49% of students say that the Academy has improved their concentration .  

74% of students said they listened better and jumped less (focusing on the thoughts of others).

66% of students say that thanks to the Academy, they find time to reflect on their thoughts (focus on their thoughts).

51% of students said they were more active in class (focusing on the subject matter and actively responding to it).

Character development

In the field of character development, we want to help students navigate them  the ability to become a better version of yourself . This concept is also called "education of desire" (from the English schooling of desire, Karen Bohlin, Teaching character education through literature: Awakening the Moral Imagination in Secondary Classrooms, 2005 ) .

Desire education takes place thanks to a moral imagination, the ability of which we specifically focused on testing:

  • 74% of students say that the Academy has improved their ability to see
    and understand the different perspectives and lives of people.

  • 50% students  the Academy has opened up new life perspectives and ways of thinking.

  • 66% of students perceive an improvement in the empathy and understanding of others.

  • 62% of students  perceives that, thanks to the Academy, they better judge themselves, situations and others.

Teacher development

Teachers have improved more in critical thinking and reading than students.

Academy teachers have improved their critical thinking and solving moral dilemmas . Their results were  

as required by a successful educational activity.

  • 45% of teachers perceive that they better assess themselves, situations and others.

For the first time, I experienced the guidance of a teacher by another lecturer. At first, I was worried about the result because it was harder for me to accept criticism. However, verbal assessment has been shown to be the best guidance a teacher / lecturer can receive.
